オーストラリア旅行 12日目 ケープトリビュレーション
お昼にバスが迎えにきます。それまで近くを散歩することにします。
バンに荷物を詰め込んで旅をしている人達。キャンプ場はだいたいタダだそうです。いいなぁ。楽しそうだなぁ。
砂浜をてくてく歩く。あ、サメだ！ちっこいの。
Cape Tribulation(ケープトリビュレーション)の先端にて。この湾は1770年6月11日、キャプテンクックの乗ったエンデバー号が座礁してしまった場所。だから「Cape Tribulation：苦難岬」という名前がつきました。その他にもこの周囲には、
・Mount Sorrow：悲しみ山
・Mount Perseverance：忍耐山
・Weary Bay：疲れた湾
などの地名があります。よっぽど苦労したんだな、クック船長。
雨上がりで緑に輝く山々。234年前、キャプテンクック一行が見た景色とまったく同じ景色を僕らは見ている。
お昼にバスがピックアップしにきました。ねぇ、どこかお昼休憩あるのかな？なさそう…。なんにも食べ物持ってきてないよ。ということで地元のバナナを購入。甘くておいしいねぇ。もりもり食べる。
バスのガイドさんが運転中にしてくれた話。(ブローディーが同時通訳してくれました)
yellow-footed antechinus(キアシ・アンテカイネス)というネズミ。このネズミはメスに比べてオスの寿命が極端に短い。その謎を解明するためカメラで観察し驚く事が判明した。交尾の時、オスはメスを両足で抱きかかえ12時間ヤリ続ける。そしてさすがに疲れていったん休憩をする。10秒間。そしてその後また12時間腰を振って振って振り続ける。そしてオスは疲労のため早くに死んでしまう。
この話で俺がおもしろいと思うのは12時間ヤリ続けることではなく、休憩が10秒間ということ。たった10秒だゼ！そりゃ早死にするよ。まぁ、悪くない死に方なのかも。(※トリビアの泉に送ってみました)
途中、バスを降りてリバークルーズ。クロコダイルを見ます。ディズニーランドのジャングルツアーズ、それの本物版と考えてもらってかまいません。
「ここにいつも大きなクロコダイルが寝ている」
とかなんとかガイドさんが説明していると、いた！いましたよ！ゆっくりと船を寄せます。
みえます？中央左側の木のすぐ右側に口の先っぽ、左側にしっぽ。3〜4mもある大きなクロコダイルです。
「攻撃距離内にいるよね…」
「動物園で教えてもらったもんね…」
「ジャンプされたら終わりだね…」
ヘンに知識があるためよけいな恐怖心が。
満潮で水が多いためクロコダイルは2匹しかみることができませんでした。でも見れた。十分だ。
「いやー、おもしろかったねぇ！」
「こういうの楽しいよね！」
と、はしゃいでいるのはブローディーと俺のふたりだけで他のみんなは睡眠タイムのようでした。なんでだ？
モスマン渓谷で川泳ぎ。じっさいたいしたことないです。
本日はポートダグラスに泊まります。ここは高級リゾート地。街並みがしゃらくさいですね。急に空が落ちてきたようなどしゃ降り。明日は大丈夫かしら。
レストランで今晩の呑み代を賭けて、とあるかわいいウェイトレスの名前当て勝負。
「わかんねぇよ、外国の人の名前なんて。そうだな、アンというニックネームなら本名はなに？アンナ？アニー？じゃぁ、アニーにする。もしくはAで始まる名前」
さて。"What is your name?"

イエェェェェーーーーーーーイ！
じつに気分のいい夜になりましたとさ。
【オーストラリア豆知識】
明日の朝ご飯のため、スーパーでお買い物。レジ前はベルトコンベア式になっていて、商品をかごから取り出してベルトコンベアに乗っけます。これ、便利なのか？
「オーストラリアではものすごく大量に買い物をする人がいるから、このような形でないとさばききれない」
なるほど、納得。
「日本でちょっと、ほんのちょっといいと思う事。お金の受け皿がレジに付いている」
あ、そういえばないね。手渡しだから細かいお金出すのがたいへんだね。ふーん。
昨晩、大はずれだったPJ'Sで朝食。ベーコンとソーセージが選べるんだけどベーコンは冷めるとすぐ固くなってしまうのでソーセージをチョイス。ブローディーも同じもの。料理をまっている間、ふと思い出した。
「昨日のソーセージ、クソまずかったじゃん？同じソーセージが出てくるんじゃねぇの？」
はい、同じものでした…(泣)。
なんかハーブがたくさん入ったピザ。なにか味の決め手になってるハーブがあったんだけどなんだっけなぁ。パクチーかもしれない。おいしかったなぁ。
